What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological developmental disability that affects the way kids process information in their brain. The affects of autism typically transpire in five different symptoms including social skills, behavioral issues, communication skills, medical issues, and learning difficulties. Kids with ASD often engage in obsessive interest and have repetitive behaviors, movements, and routines (known as stimming).
ASD is a complex disability with no proven causation our cure. It is widely suspected that both environmental and genetic factors play a role in the cause of ASD.
ASD is know as an umbrella diagnosis including Asperger’s syndrome, Rett syndrome, autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder.
